Mature skin requires a lot of support and protection to slow down the aging processes. It needs just a bit of attention and time and it can become well-taken care of, it won’t suffer from afflictions nor age as drastically. What are the mature skin problems? These are most of all excess dryness (rarely oily skin and acne), hyperpigmentations, and dangerous marks, which sometimes can be cancerous later on.
Aging depends significantly on genes and biological changes occurring in the organism, but also… gravity. Simply put, for several dozen years of your life skin was stretching due to gravity. Other factors add to the equation, but luckily we can do something about them: excess exposure to the sun and harmful UV rays, fumes, cigarettes, diet poor in vegetables and fruits, which means poor in vitamins. The key matter in inhibiting aging processes with proper skincare matching your age.
Mature skin problems – how to deal with them?
Mature skin – excess dryness
One of the aging symptoms is excess skin dryness. Skin loses the ability to bid and retain the water in the epidermis and so all regeneration processes happen slower. The biological activity of cells decreases as is the number of collagen and elastin fibers responsible for skin suppleness. Laughter lines and furrows appear. The epidermis is visibly thinner and rougher, it peels off because sebaceous glands work slower.
Skin in such a condition needs intense hydration. What can help it? Creams with deep moisturizing properties and vitamin masks (you can do them every other day). You should also think about cosmetics able to strengthen blood vessels because with age those become brittle and your face may be sprinkled with spider veins.
Mature skin – hyperpigmentation
The impact of sun rays is highly damaging. Due to its impact photoaging is common and its effect is visible in the areas usually left uncovered like hands, face, and cleavage and is present as hyperpigmentations.
These dark spots are melanin clusters. If hyperpigmentations appear you should give up tanning or else more spots will pop up and the existing ones will get darker.
Remember that sometimes hyperpigmentations may appear due to medication or herbs, e.g. hypericum – increases skin sensitivity to the sun rays. All year long you need to wear protective cream with the highest SPF possible.
Mature skin – dangerous marks
With age, an organism is weaker and it cannot defend itself against abnormal cell divisions, e.g. the skin. Many cell divisions can lead to becoming cancerous, this includes also the skin. Do not ignore any of the skin changes. Most of them at first look like 2-3 millimeters wound which later on is covered with a scab. When the scab falls and the wound is visible again and of it won’t heal, it should be an alarm to you that something bad happens to the skin. It can take years. You should go to the doctor and remove the change – usually, the treatment ends there. Quick intervention saves our health and often life.
It is similar when it comes to freckles. If you notice that it changed its shape, its edges are jagged, it bleeds or grows – you should show it to your doctor.
Make-up for mature skin
You can wear make-up no matter your age! Well made make-up will cover hyperpigmentations and spider veins but also make your skin radiant, charming, and healthy-looking, and the most important, it can make you look younger.
It is the most important to not overdo with layers of cosmetics and cosmetics intensity. Mature skin likes gentle CC or DD creams or foundations for mature skin which optically camouflage imperfections and make skin radiant. Your skin feels rested and healthy. Use blusher with moderation, but you can use lip plumper in subtle colors, e.g. nude or pink. Use highlighting under eye concealer and pearly eyeshadows in the color of champaign.
You may want to consider using some henna on eyebrows and eyelashes (at the beauty salon) just not in black because it’ll leave you with a not so beneficial change to face features. Take care of your eyelashes and eyebrows by, e.g. using professional serum and choose mascara which can at the same time condition your eyelashes.
